I am always looking for new and creative ways of using the camera so portraiture seemed an obvious field to explore. All photographers at whatever level they may be have the capacity to learn new ideas and techniques. Photography is such a huge area to learn with such individual creativity involved that it is never possible to know every single element. The photographers who say different have usually reached their learning peak and will be stuck in their ways. Styles are always changing along with consumer perception, so as a photographer it is crucial to keep evolving and developing.
There are three key elements with portraiture that we get satisfaction from. The first being the ability to shoot clear, crisp shots in the perfect set lighting conditions, which does comes naturally from experience. The second is the posing of the shots to make the subject look fantastic and natural in front of the camera. The third and most technical area is the digital enhancements that I am able to produce in PhotoShop that can be done to enhance the look and style of the finished photograph. From my point of view the most important thing to get right is to give the WOW factor when showing the customer their final shots displayed to them.
